This training course reflects guidance around the Health and Safety at Work (Asbestos) Regulations 2016 and WorkSafe NZ’s Approved Code of Practice for the Management and Removal of Asbestos. It is designed for any person who may encounter asbestos or asbestos‑containing materials (ACMs) during their work.
The programme is delivered entirely online and can be completed at your own pace. A digital certificate is issued on successful completion and carries a two‑year recommended renewal date.
If you intend to finish the course in one sitting, please allow 30 to 45 minutes. You may pause at any time and return later—access remains open for six months from your registration date.
The Regulations require every worker who may be exposed to asbestos to receive suitable information, instruction, and training. Learners must be able to recognise ACMs, understand safe‑work practices, and know where to find additional safety information.
After completing the modules, you will be able to:
- Explain what asbestos is, and why it is dangerous.
- Identify and list common asbestos‑containing materials and the most probable locations where asbestos can be found.
- Describe the health effects of asbestos exposure and the contributing factors of asbestos‑related diseases.
- Discuss who is at greater risk of being exposed to asbestos.
- Detail control measures to prevent or minimise exposure to asbestos.
- Specify appropriate PPE for asbestos work.
- Summarise the steps taken by licensed asbestos professionals for asbestos removal.
- Review safe asbestos‑waste handling and disposal.
Upon completing this course, you will receive:
- A digital certificate with a two‑year recommended renewal date, providing evidence that you have completed asbestos awareness training
We encourage you to limit distractions and take regular breaks—aim for a five‑minute pause every thirty minutes of study.
This course can also be delivered face‑to‑face as a public or private onsite session. Please contact us to discuss scheduling options.
